Holiday Farm in Sovana: The Cavone

Il Cavone Holiday Farm at the heart of a family-run working farm, is situated in the green countryside surrounding Sovana, a medieval hamlet at the centre of an Archaeological Park home to many etruscan necropoli.

Within the 70 hectares of the farm there are vineyards and olive groves alongside cultivated fields and grazing land, all worked following the 2078/cee regulations for organic farming.

Our vineyards belong to D.O.C.(denomination of controlled origin) Rosso of Sovana and Bianco of Pitigliano. We also keep about 400 head of sheep (vissane and sardinian breeds).

We are in an ideal position for you to have a relaxing holiday with easy access to many interesting and different attractions; daytrips to the hot springs at Saturnia (15km), to Lake Bolsena (30 km), to Pitigliano (5km) and to Sorano (7km). Or if you like the mountains you can visit Monte Amiata (45km) or only an hour away by car you can spend a day by the sea on the Tuscan or Argentario (silver) coast.

If you share our love of horses you can make the most of our six sweet-tempered mounts to enjoy treks on horseback in the greenery of our beautiful local countryside.

Our swimming pool, 8 X 16 metres and fitted with roman steps ideal for children, is at your complete disposal for a refreshing swim whenever you feel like it.

We are always available to let you try our homemade local produce. In fact we have a wine cellar dug out of vulcanic rock under the farmhouse, where around 10,000 bottles of both red and white wine are produced and bottled.

The red wine is D.O.C. Sovana with San Giovese, Merlot and Cabernet grapes.

The white wine is D.O.C. Pitigliano with Trebbiano, Malvasia and Grechetto di Tufo.

Apart from our wines, you'll also find other local products such as extravergin olive oil, cheeses, jams and fresh ricotta cheese.
